Water Conservation Projects

Water Conservation Projects:

In 2017, NAMCO partnered with NABARD to launch large scale water conservation efforts in Nagapattinam district through mobilizing people, training them and motivating them to initiate and sustain water conservation efforts. Through these water campaigns, NAMCO reached out to more than 4700 farmers and trained them on the importance of water, water budgeting, water infrastructure, revival of small water bodies and sustenance of such resources. The project resulted in enhanced awareness and participation by the farming communities.

In the same year, NAMCO mobilized support from AIMS India Foundation and undertook renovation of a big lake in Vilangudi village of Ariyalur district. Further, NAMCO also implemented the cleaning of a water canal in Vellore village of Coimbatore district. In Kottaiyur village of Virudhunagar district, NAMCO undertook removal of ‘seema karuvel’ (prosopis juliflora) trees, which are considered to be detrimental to ground water table, from about 62 acres in the lake. It also strengthened the bunds to enable holding of water by the lake to its designed capacity.
