Climate Change Adaptation Projects

Climate Change Adaptation Projects:

The Ministry of Forests and Environment, Government of India invited NAMCO to implement projects that fostered climate change adaptation by the farmers and general public at the district level. The project lasted for about seven long years and included a number of activities such as training people on vermin-compost, tree planting, conservation of water bodies etc. These trainings were accompanied by a series of activities for implementation.

NAMCO partnered with the Tamil daily ‘Dinamani’ and the Rotary Club (of Marudhur) and launched mega campaigns on tree planting. These campaigns not only enhanced the awareness of people but also made them to participate in tree planting activities. In 2021, NAMCO organized campaigns on environmental conservation in partnership with NABARD.

NAMCO partnered with SCORD, a Thiruvarur based NGO and implemented a project on training farmers on organic agriculture. Through this initiative, NAMCO reached out to more than 1000 farmers from about 20 village panchayats in Thiruthuraipoondy block of Thiruvarur district.

NAMCO was the front runner in the district to introduce solar lighting systems for households. In partnership with Green Light Planet, a corporate involved in the manufacture and distribution of solar lights globally, NAMCO was able to reach out to more than a hundred households who are now proud users of solar lights and are becoming champions of green energy.

NAMCO is currently implementing a project in partnership with GIZ for promoting the use of Decentralized Renewable Energy (DRE) appliances for livelihoods through access to finance and technology. The project will bring together technology service providers and financial service producers (microfinance) to enable the end users gain access to such new green technologies.
