For the poor, health is the foundation for their sustainable livelihoods. A majority of the poor are dependent on their physical labour activities for their livelihoods. Also, good health forms the basis of their access to other basic necessities of life like education, livelihoods etc. NAMCO believes that the negative impact of ill-health on communities can be avoided through preventive health care initiatives. As the adage goes, ‘prevention is better that cure’, support for curative health care is far more expensive as compared to preventive measures that are undertaken, while also being deeply negatively impactful. NAMCO lays thrust on preventive health initiatives to a large extent. However, for those already vulnerable, NAMCO extends a helping hand in the form of care and support. This is the rationale for NAMCO for running the old age home, integrated home for the orphaned children and for implementing the CHILDLINE program.
