Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs)

Farmers Producer Organization (FPO) is new legal form of aggregation of rural farmers and producers under the companies act. This gives many advantages to the members over the normal SHG federation. NAMCO has partnered with NABARD and promoted two all-women FPOs in Nagapattinam district - NAMCO JEEVAN and NAMCO SUYAMBU, which are first of their kind in the district and among the few in the entire state. About 360 women members are first aggregated into different producer groups based on their existing livelihoods, who are all further aggregated to form the Namco Jeevan FPO. The FPO was registered in 2021. They have commenced focusing on agriculture development of their members. The FPO has installed a solar dryer and solar powered flour mill unit to enable value addition to their produce. They also have a retail outlet in Thiruvarur to market their value added produce.

Likewise, Namco Surabi has mobilized about 200 women members and have began to focus on dairy development of their members. The FPO is formally registered in 2022. They have already set up a cattle feed unit to cater to the requirements of their members.

Both FPOs are all set to move forward with multiple activities for promotion and strengthening of livelihoods of its members in the coming years.
